In November, US equities registered their best monthly performance for over a year. November and December are traditionally better months for the equity market. There are theories as to why this is, such as underperforming fund managers chasing the market for performance. There is also a theory that larger institutional traders ‘close books’ leading into Christmas, making the market more prone to moves by individual investors, who tend to be net buyers.
